The quarter developed around the Presentation of the Virgin Church, built in 1840–1844. The Moshtanska House preserves painted exterior decoration, a tradition found on some Revival-period homes in the old town.
In 1835, Bansko residents gave the house to master Velyan Ognev, who decorated it with murals. The Blue Room, carved veranda rosette and interconnected ground-floor hiding places preserve its Revival character.
Vihren is Pirin’s marble summit, rising to 2,914 metres. Known as Eltepe until 1942, it shelters edelweiss on the Dzhamdzhiev Rocks, while chamois inhabit the Kazanite area below.
The church was built in 1857 and its murals painted by Teofil Minov in 1876. Images include Saints Cyril and Methodius and an unusual depiction of Saint Christopher with a dog’s head.
