Boyana Church stands at the foot of Mount Vitosha in Sofia. Its celebrated frescoes of 1259 give medieval figures remarkable individuality and expression. More about this place

Kaloyan and Desislava funded the two-storey extension in the thirteenth century. Queen Eleonora later saved the church from demolition and, following her death in 1917, was buried beside its southern side.
