Catherine’s Gate, Brașov
Catherine’s Gate was built in 1559 by Brașov’s tailors’ guild. The surviving tower formed part of a larger fortified entrance and takes its name from the former nearby monastery of St Catherine. Four small corner turrets symbolise the city’s judicial autonomy. It marks the transition between the old centre and the Șchei district, near the later Șchei Gate.
