The Blue Mosque, also known as Sultan Ahmed Mosque, is an Istanbul landmark beside Sultanahmet Square. Six minarets and cascading domes define its skyline, while blue İznik tiles distinguish its interior. It remains an active place of worship as well as an architectural attraction.
The mosque was designed by architect Sedefkâr Mehmet Ağa for Sultan Ahmed I. Calligraphic inscriptions by Seyyid Kasım Gubari complement the rich ceramic decoration of the interior prayer space.
