Serpent Column — Istanbul

The Serpent Column is an ancient bronze monument in the Hippodrome area. Originally dedicated at Apollo’s sanctuary in Delphi, it commemorated the Greek victory at Plataea. Its surviving intertwined serpent bodies connect present-day Istanbul with the history of ancient Greece.
