The Rose Valley between the Balkan Mountains and Sredna Gora is closely linked with oil-bearing roses and rose-oil production. Around Kazanlak and Karlovo, agricultural traditions meet museums and Thracian heritage. Travelling through the region introduces the scents and skills that made the Bulgarian rose such a familiar symbol.
Kazanlak’s Rose Museum began in 1967 as a small exhibition devoted to rose picking in the town and surrounding area. In 1969 it became an independent museum documenting the oil-bearing rose’s cultural importance.
