The Seven Rila Lakes are a group of glacial lakes in northwestern Rila. Set at different elevations, they are connected by streams and bear names inspired by their shapes. The Kidney, the Eye and the Tear are among the best known. Open slopes and rocky ridges reveal the cirque’s characteristic high-mountain landscape.

More about this place

Okoto is Rila’s deepest glacial lake at 37.5 metres. Snowmelt and rainfall raise lake water levels in May–July, while September brings a seasonal minimum through reduced rainfall and evaporation.
