Sinaia Monastery

Mihail Cantacuzino founded Sinaia Monastery in 1695 after a pilgrimage to Mount Sinai. The Orthodox complex gave its name to the present-day resort of Sinaia. Its two courtyards contain the seventeenth-century Old Church and a larger nineteenth-century church. Stone decoration, frescoes and the surrounding monastic buildings preserve traces of Romania’s religious and artistic traditions.
